Deepening Your Observation Practice

About the Course​​

Join us for a one-day workshop, The Power of Stillness: Deepening Your Observation Practice, designed to help you bring greater clarity and purpose to your observation practice. Participants are encouraged to bring the observation tools and methods they currently use and, through reflection and collaboration with colleagues, refine and adapt them to better meet their needs and classroom contexts.


Observation is a cornerstone of the Montessori classroom. Effective observation begins with a guiding question and includes careful, objective note-taking. Meaningful observation continues with reflection—examining notes to identify patterns, similarities, and insights that inform assessment, preparation, and future lesson planning.


During this workshop, participants will observe in a Montessori classroom, collaborate in small groups, and engage in guided discussions. Together, you will analyze your observations, identify emerging skills, determine appropriate lessons, and outline next steps for childrens’ continued growth.
Seats are limited to 12 participants. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop if fewer than 8 participants register. This workshop is intended for Montessori teachers who wish to refresh and strengthen their observation skills while exploring new ways to make their practice more intentional and impactful.

Learning Objective

 

  1. Review and assess their current observation practices and create a concrete action plan outlining at least two changes to strengthen their intentionality.

  2. Explain the role of observation in learning, assessing, and planning, and clearly distinguish between observation and record keeping through examples or group discussion.

  3. Apply a reflective process to their recorded observations by identifying patterns or insights and using them to propose next steps for guiding the children.

  4. Formulate at least two purposeful observation questions that will guide their focus during future classroom observations.
